An initiative supported by the Command Area Development Authority (CADA), Department of Irrigation, Government of Andhra Pradesh to train farmers in more efficient use of available water resources. The training is centred on the System of Rice Intensification (SRI) technology developed in Madagascar by local NGOs in collaboration with Cornell International Institute for Food, Agriculture and Development (CIIFAD). We are coordinating the training activities for two canals, which irrigate 30,000 hectares, covering 15,000 agricultural families in the first year and a total of 120,000 agricultural families over the next two years, in our area.
- Managerial Development Programmes (CADA) :
The irrigation department has been exploring appropriate ways to enhance the managerial skills of engineers. An action research project was initiated to assess the challenges faced by the engineers in the canal system and identify management concepts tools and techniques relevant to their context. Two workshops were held with E-in-Cs, CEs and SEs. Based on the feedback from the workshops and research work, three concepts were identified as crucial for the engineer in O&M. Based on this an approach strategy for facilitating internal role transformation within the Irrigation Department in AP was developed.
